All Saints' Way

this is a tiny alley in Boston's North End. It is the creation of someone named, appropriately enough, Peter. He locks the gate sometimes, but often the alley is open to the public, music plays from a small cassette deck, and incense burns near several lit candles. Peter never rests - he is always creating new collages dedicated to various saints. This winter he was doing all Chinese saints. Last year he replaced the Genevieve saint collage as it had become water damaged. He accepts no money, and does this on his own. He makes the names of the saints with a jigsaw. Despite (or perhaps because of) the ghosts that most certainly live here,the alley is a haven of peace in the middle of the city, and easily my favorite part of Boston. Do visit it sometime.

For Illustration Friday's "FAT" theme. I wasn't going to submit to this one because I didn't like the idea at first. Then i tried to think outside the box - not of fat people or animals, but the ingredient.....mmmmmgreasy food. Then I got sent to the doughnut shop by my boss who loves them doughnuts, and I remembered one of my alltime favorites: the Doughnut Factory. I just love factories, works, foundries....they make fascinating subjects to me. Click to enlarge! Enjoy, and thanks to everyone to participates in Illustration Friday - it's a hoot!
