Vandal Hordes
St. Martin-in-the-Fields Book Antiquariat

A quiet place for Illustration Friday. I love used book shops. I used to work at the Wooden Spoon in Ann Arbor Michigan. There's a nifty one in the German Village in Columbus, OH, that is a maze of tiny rooms, 32 or 34, up various flights of steps and round corners. I love it. I also like the name "antiquariat" which I stole from a shop in Haifa. There's an area that's filled with book shops, from the old dusty used-book shops, to elegant expensive used-book places, to fluorescent-lit new-book shops with stacks of x-rated magazines on the sidewalk in front. I like any shop that offers a sofa and a cat in a quiet corner.

"Help" Line

I am extremely suspicious of the power corporations hold over us, and about the wierd penetrating infiltration of the net into our lives. And now our wallets. Amazon.com (this is about one company, but there are lots of others in the same gutter) has a new program. If you search for the program (called Amazon P- R- I- M- E--- i refuse to even give them the web-benefit of writing out the program name properly so a robot can read it) by its name you will find praise galore.

It's a scam.

What other name can you apply to something that helps itself to $79 from your bank account without your approval, and does not notify you that it took it or send any kind of confirmation? In the 3-D world we call that a CON. For more details, here are some other people's thoughts. Comment number thirteen is downright creepy.

On the other hand, I *do* owe them for the inspiration for a series of cartoons.
