A Temporary Adieu
Big-Nose Cartoons Invade Boston

Oh happy day! A project 4 months in the making (take THAT, pyramids of Egypt!) has finally come to fruition with the installation of a 19-square-foot mural cartoon OF the Bean and Leaf Cafe AT the Bean and Leaf Cafe. Thanks to Christine Leone, Patroness of the Dubious Arts, and to Jairo, Luis and Linda for coffee, scones, smiles and laughs. And to Danny and Brian who always laugh and wave at me through the windows - and wound up being put into the picture too. Serves you right. Thanks to the boys at Air Graphics for putting the smackdown on my 60-billion-Meg file, and mounting it so lovelily. Zack, Bob, Ernesto, Steve, Rich, John, John, Pete, Eamonn, Kevin, Paul and...and whatsisface. Thanks!

Being a cartoonist, not a photographer, my photo's no great shakes. But it'll do for now.

PRESS RELEASE

“Happy City 2007” Calendar.

BOSTON, MA – JUNE 19, 2006 –Busy happy crowds of big-nosed people come from all over the world to be in Happy City 2007, a full-color 12-month calendar released in conjunction with Lulu (www.lulu.com), the world’s fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.

Happy City 2007 boasts detailed cartoonscapes ranging from Boston’s very Italian North End to Sfat, the city of mystics, nestled in the mountains of Israel. The Cozy Kitchen will warm you in the heart of a chilly winter, and the Pirate Story shows us that through books, we can escape to wonderlands of our own making.

ABOUT AUTHOR
Genevieve Shapiro has nearly 4 decades of drawing experience, but has yet to outgrow childhood, as proven by her daily output of goofiness on several different websites. A member of the Society of Children’s Bookwriters and Illustrators, she performs freelance artwork for anyone who loves her style and plunks down the silver. Having lived on five continents, she isn’t likely to run out of stories, and in fact has two books on the way: Diseased Fancy (Corrupted Photos of Boston) and StarKitty (a word-free voyage off earth and home again).

In response to Illustration Friday's theme of "Portrait" and keeping on the theme of last week's superheroines, here's a portrait of another friend of mine, Joni, who is, as I say, a Doctor of Physisistry and also a Computational Geniusess.
